Day Labor / Crew Labor - Setup

In Estimate Rocket all labor is considered at an hourly rate.  The back calculations in the system are based on 60 minutes per unit where the unit is understood to be 1 hour.

However, this should not prevent day labor or crew labor from being setup. It is also important to understand that if the crew is paid by the day and not by the hour that won't be a problem as the hours are simply used as the building block for the day / crew labor.

Realistically the business owner experience as to how long a particular project should take is built into how the day / crew labor is added to a project and essentially the ‘work standard’.

Also, if employees are time tracking the accountability reporting will help the business owner understand how each crew / worker is performing against the work standard. Because ultimately hours are being calculated for each job it will also be possible to use the scheduling feature and profitability calculation in Estimate Rocket.

The Base Labor Item

The base labor item should be an item type of Labor. The price can be set to start and changed any time later. The cost here comes from the Account Settings page

Day Labor - 1 Person (day)

In this case the crew is ideally one person that would be on site for 1 or more days. In the estimating phase the number of days can be provided on the fly or built into a specific type of job. In this case the item type is an assembly with units of days where the labor setup in previous step is configured at a rate of 8 hours per day.

Day Labor - 2 Person (day)

In an instance where the crew is going to be 2 people the day labor can also be configured to include 2 crew members where the number of days is passed in on the fly or the number of days is built into the job type. In this case the item type is an assembly with units of days where the labor setup in the initial step is configured at a rate of 16 hours per day.

For larger crews the pattern here is not difficult to follow.

  • 3 person crew would be 24 hours per day
  • 4 person crew would be 32 hours per day

Create an Item Assembly with Day / Crew Labor

In this case an assembly has been created for a 'standard' scope of work. A Basement Mold Remediation job has been defined as a 2 person / 2 day job and will be added to an estimate on per unit of each. Thus the Day Labor - 2 Person (day) has been added with 2 days for each basement job.
