Bulk Changing a Labor or Material Item In Estimate Rocket

Why Estimate Rocket?

Quick Estimates and Flexible Estimates

Estimate Rocket allows an estimator to quickly capture the details of a project using a flexible estimating process and to deliver a proposal for electronic signature on the spot.

If there is a need for bulk changing a material or labor item in a project the following are needed:

  • The different labor items in your item library
  • The different material items in your Item library.
  • This prevents you from needing to maintain 2 different versions of the same process

Why would you need to bulk edit labor on a project

Why would you need to bulk edit labor in a project?
For example residential labor might be not taxed and commercial labor is taxed.
Perhaps you do work in 2 different states which have different tax rules.
Perhaps you have a more favorable per hour labor rate for commercial projects due to what is expected to be repeat business.
Bulk edit of labor prevents you from the need to maintain 2 parallel sets of line items..

Setup of the Same Labor Items with different properties

In your item library you have the ‘same’ labor but with 2 different configurations one being taxable and the other being non taxable (here being labeled very clearly).

Setup of a Single Assembly with the Preferred Labor

All of your Items that are assemblies are setup with one or the other labor (you don't need to maintain 2 different versions)
Best practice from us is that you lean towards which represents the bulk of your projects and have that be your default.

Bulk Editing the Labor Item on a Project

Once all the areas are added to a project then do the bulk edit.
If you do the bulk edit and then add more areas the new areas will be added with the original labor.

From the Labor section below your line items click the edit button next to the labor that needs to be changed and use the dialogue to fine and select your replacement labor.
The project prices will be immediately be recalculated when the change is saved.

Why would you need to bulk edit material on a project

Why would you need to bulk edit material in a project?
Perhaps you normally only use materials from a specific vendor but those materials are a bit too expensive for the client.
Maybe one of the vendors is having a spectacular sale on materials for a month.
Maybe the client likes the color pallet on the other vendor better. .
Perhaps a lower grade of paint with the same vendor will save enough for you to sell the project.
Bulk edit of material prevents you from the need to maintain 2 parallel sets of line items..

Setup of Different but the Same Material Items

In your item library you have parallel materials such as wall paint from 2 manufacturers or even wall paint of 2 different qualities and thus price.
In this case my example has 2 different vendors for a similar product.
